New friends may be poems but…

.

New friends may be poems but old friends are alphabets. Don’t forget the alphabets because you will need them to read the poems ..

  1. Wonderful quote from The Bard.
    And great art to illustrate.
    Very wise and lovely sentiment.
    Thank you for sharing.

Similar thoughts have been growing in my head more and more as I grow old.
I have lost ninety-eight percent of my friends, either through death, or through neglect on my part. I had never understood the requisite, dire importance of nurturing friendships. I just allowed them to die on the vine, and kept moving.

Seems I was always on my way to some Middle East shit-hole to work, or off to the Navy, or just plain lazy and stupid and arrogant.

I am paying for that behavior now, but at least I have finally come to the stark realization of how wrong my actions, no, inactions were, and am spending my last years trying to be nicer to ALL people.
Who knows? I may discover some new friends, or re-connect with some old ones, if they’ll have me.

There are a few, very damn few, exceptions.

Jimmy being one, but he crashed his truck on a stretch of ‘Bad Texas Road’ late one night and is gone from me forever. I miss the son-of-a-bitch, more than anyone I have ever lost, to even include my parents and grandparents.
Below is his story, if you have some time and are inclined to read it.

    Cheers My Friend.
(We are Friends, yes?—Pen Pal Friends—and I do place a lot of value on that.

    Sincerely,
    Lance
