“Don’t flatter yourself that friendship authorizes you to say disagreeable things to your intimates. The nearer you come into relation with a person, the more necessary do tact and courtesy become. Except in cases of necessity, which are rare, leave your friend to learn unpleasant things from his enemies; they are ready enough to tell them.”

No, your friends just expect your truth, that’s why your their friend. If you lie or distort the truth they are hurt and lose that trust that you build with them, like in any close relationship. Your friendship loses that connection because you weren’t in that loving space. Love may hurt in it’s truth, but it will cement that relationship because it is built on that trust. Mind you, there is also a thing called integrity. You do not smash your friend with a quote of ‘your fat’ or ‘your ugly’. As the quote said, you do it with the love and tact that it deserves. Namaste
